L/A Junior Bassmasters Program

L/A Junior Bassmasters, a bass club for young anglers from 11-18 years old. The kids club fishes 3 or 4 tournaments from volunteer boats a year around Central and Southern Maine. Members qualify to compete in a State Championship that sends the winners to regional as well as national tournaments, which some of our members have done in years past, including Brian Volkernick, B.A.S.S. Junior Eastern Divisonal Champion, and Nick Deering who won a world championship with TBF! Space is limited each year so plan ahead if your interested in our program. A year end luncheon banquet is held to award plaques

Doucette and Wood Win Sabattus Tournament

After a tough day of bass fishing where only 10 fish out of a possible 40 that could be weighed in by the 8 anglers two competitors separated themselves from the rest of the field.

On the Semi Pro side Braidan Doucette managed 3.91 lbs from 3 bass that he caught on a jerkbait. Nathan Smith landed second place with his 2.81 lb largemouth that fell to a jig and chunk. That fish was also the big bass for the semi-pro division. Travis Lepage finished up in the third spot.

Fishing a jig and trailer off a deep bank very patiently paid off with 3 bass weighing 10.91 lbs for Brenden Wood, who is in his first season in the Pro Division. Brenden also had the big bass for his division with a 4.05 monster largemouth. Rookie member Ian Westphal proved he is no slouch when it comes to catching fish in tough conditions, Ian netted 3 bass that weighed 5.58 lbs, with a lunker smallmouth tipping the scales at 2.02 lbs, all of Ian's bass were caught on a jerkbait. Rounding up the remaining Pro anglers were Brian Volkernick, Cameron Estrella, and Kaitlyn Deering, all of which who will usually finish in the top of pack. Absent today was Frankie Curran, and Nick Deering.

Tackle packs were donated from two members of Bass Boat Central Forum (www.bbcboards.net) as well as Grizz Baits (www.grizzbaits.com) and certificates were awarded to all the anglers for competing.

Special thanks to all the volunteer boaters today, Bruce Wood, John Volkernick, Louis Deering, and Mark Swett. Also thanks to Todd Stevens for offering his boat today and to a young man who's name I can't recall but took several photos of the tournament on and off the water. Those photos will be posted as soon as we receive them.
